PbR in the modern healthcare landscape
Under new legislation, the public is now much more vocal in how healthcare is provided. With the personalisation of health and social care, for example, every person who receives support has greater choice and control over the shape of that support in all settings. Access to online information and the rise in ‘patient expertise’ also means people are far better placed to challenge diagnosis and service delivery.
These developments have accelerated PbR, which is often used in healthcare to assess whether people’s needs and expectations (e.g. in self-directed support) have been met. It is also increasingly used among GP consortia, with GPs inserting PbR elements into local service contracts in an attempt to improve results in key areas (e.g. reducing falls among the elderly).
Helping healthcare providers measure and demonstrate value
Inspire2Enterprise is committed to helping healthcare providers understand PbR and demonstrate the social value of their services. This includes dedicated support for those providers entering new healthcare contracts.
We start with an in-depth consultation to ascertain an organisation’s readiness for PbR. We also explore a range of measures intended to simplify the PbR process, minimise the risks, and help with contractual negotiations.
Such measures include:
- Sourcing extra funding or investment
- Fitting an organisation into a larger supply chain
- Reassessing an organisation’s business model to help improve cash flow – for example, through operational efficiencies
- Using research to help measure and show social impact and value
