IMPACT is a University of Northampton initiative delivered by Inspire2Enterprise, providing a unique blend of business support and resource efficiency to social enterprises and voluntary and community organisations based in the East of England.*  

The University of Northampton School of Science and Technology 

The School of Science and Technology at the University of Northampton offers undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in a wide range of subjects including Cleaning, Computing, Engineering, Environmental and Geographical Sciences, Leather Technology and Wastes Management.

We have strong links with local and national businesses and we work in collaboration with a number of industrial partners who provide paid work placements for some of our students.

Our recently upgraded facilities ensure that all students are able to learn within a supportive, research active, environment, learning from experienced staff with a track record of world-class research in academia and industry as well as the use of cutting-edge equipment.

The School of Science and Technology is an active member of the Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM) network and many of our staff and students are ambassadors for this network, sharing their enthusiasm and knowledge across the region.

Prof. Margaret Bates

Margaret Bates is manager of Centre for Sustainable Wastes Management and Professor of Sustainable Wastes Management at the University of Northampton.  She has been involved in wastes management for 25 years and undertook her PhD on landfill microbiology.  Margaret is interested in all aspects of waste management.  She is a Chartered Waste Management and a Chartered Environmentalist and is currently chair of the Chartered Institution of Wastes Management Scientific and Technical Committee.  Margaret is currently working with key stakeholders to develop sustainable e-waste management systems in Africa.

Dr. Waleed Montasser

Dr. Waleed Montasser is a full time wastes management researcher at the University of Northampton.  He studied for a MSc. in Environmental Pollution Science, from Brunel University and went on to complete a PhD at The University of Northampton on developing the business case for new waste management technologies in England and Wales. Waleed is involved with the Centre for Sustainable Wastes Management, in teaching various modules for undergraduate and postgraduates, as well as supervision for undergraduate dissertation projects and is also a reviewer for peer-reviewed journals. He has worked with a range of government and associated organisations together with private sector wastes management companies. Waleed is a member of the Chartered Institution of Wastes Management, the International Solid Waste Association and the Institute of Environmental Management.
